ABOUT Ashley
As a child I would often draw detailed imaginary worlds.
I went onto study Fine Art, creating light installations from junk that projected universes onto the walls.
While studying I received a scholarship to exhibit in Tokyo and to take an MA in curating. Since graduating I have held curatorial positions in four museums, working on old master drawings, art of the holocaust, and contemporary commissioning. In 2012 I was awarded the Contemporary Art Society annual award for Museums, delivering one of the first projects to 3D scan and give away free of copyright a museums sculpture collection.
I am a PhD candidate at The University of Nottingham, my thesis explores the relationship between the law and museum collections. The research asks how we might allow greater access and use of public collections, it imagines a new world for museums.
I am currently curator of the Ruskin Collection, Sheffield.
